September is here, and historically, it's been a tough month for the stock market. With the past four September’s S&P 500 seeing declines of -4.9%, -9.3%, -4.8%, and -3.9%, it's clear that this month tends to be a rough ride for investors. But as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words Take a look at Figure 1: Beware and Be Prepared. September averages out to a doozy—while we can't control the future, we can certainly be prepared for it.

Some have asked about hedging against such volatility. Especially since it seems like a higher than usual probability event. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy and it is that expensive. This will vary depending on the exact circumstances of each client and we are open to talking about how to mitigate fall volatility if there is a specific need for your situation. Please let us know if would like to discuss. Otherwise, enjoy what will hopefully be some awesome fall weather and a little bumpiness in the stock market.

As summer ends and routines kick back in, the market's weakness this September might just present us with some buying opportunities. I'm ready with my finger on the trigger, hoping for stocks to get cheaper. Let’s stay sharp and look out for the best investment opportunities this month.

Here's to a great September—stay vigilant and proactive!
