A client reached out this week and said, "This is going to continue until ____________ destroys our democracy." I left out Trump or Biden because the statement's essence remains unchanged. If I had to poll our clients or America at large, the split would likely be near 50/50. Over the weekend, we could potentially add Kamala Harris to the list, but our response at Members’ Wealth remains the same.
I responded to the client, "Perhaps it's different this time, but I've been hearing for 30 years that this is the most important election of our lifetime and that the other guy will destroy the economy and markets. I have yet to experience such destruction and do not foresee the end of American democracy or our capital markets. There will be normal volatility and ups and downs, and at Members’ Wealth, we will continue to try to preserve and grow our client's wealth so it can endure as the environment continually evolves."
At Members’ Wealth, we work to elevate family wealth plans with simplified, forward-thinking solutions, allowing them to focus on growth, relationships, and adventure—regardless of the political climate, market climate, or the actual climate. We cannot blame the weather or the president for not achieving our client's goals. We hold ourselves accountable. We do, however, try to seek every opportunity to potentially capitalize on short-term mispricing due to short-term volatility, benefiting our clients' investment portfolios.
And just like 60 minutes would, I will end with some wisdom from Andy Rooney -
“It’s just amazing how long this country has been going to hell without ever having got there.”
